Test of English as a Foreign Language Paper Based Test, prominently known as TOEFL PBT Test, is one of the two modes of TOEFL test, which is conducted for to test the English proficiency of candidates, to enable them acquire academic responsibilities in the Universities. Every applicant has to follow the fee criteria for TOEFL PBT Test (different from TOEFL IBT Test), such as forms of payment and refunds. Any change in the fee structure may be on but do not include Value Added or other taxes. This article is about the fee structure of TOEFL PBT test.

Modes of TOEFL PBT Test Fee Payment
- You can make payment through Credit/debit card - American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA.
- Money order/International money orders are also available to make payment.
- Candidates can make payment through a registration voucher.
- For candidates from outside U.S. territories can pay through bank draft.
- To pay through Western Union Quick, you have to complete the form and then use the following under "Pay To:" Company Name: Educational Testing Service; City Code: TOEFLPROGRAM NJ; Country: U.S.A. You have to contain the original receipt marked "Agent's Copy" with your form.
- Payments should be made through Euro cheques, drawn on a bank in the same European country as the person writing the cheque. Cheques should be made payable to "ETS-TOEFL".
- Candidates must know that only Visa or paper cheques are accepted for these locations - Benin, Cameroon, Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Togo
- For outside candidates, UNESCO coupons are also available to make payments.
- The candidates, who cannot make payment through any of the aforementioned modes of payment, can look onto some other forms of payment, like cheque. To make payment through check, you must follow these instructions given below:
- Cheque must contain preprinted bank name and address.
- The candidates should make sure that the cheque must be drawn on a bank in the same country, as they writing the cheque.
- Typewritten names will not be accepted. Instead, cheque must have test taker’s name and address.
- The cheque must have a preprinted cheque number.
- The cheque must not be more than 90 days old when it is received by ETS.
- You will be charged US$20 for insufficient funds.

Payments are accepted only in the following currencies, only at the prevailing rate of the U.S. dollar:

Refunds
If a candidate returns an unused paper-based test admission ticket, then the partial refund of half the registration fee would be available. You are not eligible for any refund once you are admitted to the test center. Refunds are only available in U.S. dollars. If you have not followed all the registration procedures, you are not eligible for any refunds. To request a partial refund, you have to complete the Refund Request Form (PDF) and send it along with your unused paper-based test admission ticket to the following address:

The refund request form and admission ticket must be received within 60 days after TOEFL PBT Test date. Refunds, if drawn on a U.S. bank, will take eight weeks for processing, otherwise, it will take 12 weeks.
