Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) test is a qualifying exam conducted for admission into nursing courses.


CGFNS Test



CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) Qualifying Exam is a test where candidate’s knowledge and understanding of nursing field as it is taught and practiced in the United States is examined. It is a gateway for all the nursing graduates, who desire to pursue their career as registered nurses in the U.S. The test also helps the candidates to predict their chances to crack NCLEX-RN - the U.S. registered nurse licensing exam. CGFNS test comprises of objective, multiple-choice and alternate-item type questions designed by experts.  
 
Apart from CGFNS Qualifying Exam, the candidates are also required to crack English language proficiency exam, in order to obtain CGFNS Certificate. The candidates have to clear this exam within the time of two years. Those, who have completed their education from the country where English is the native language, are exempted from the test. The candidates will be awarded a CGFNS Certificate only when they have passed both the nursing section and the English language section of the examination. The CGFNS test is offered through a five-day test window, during designated months. From March 2011, the new Internet-based CGFNS test will be organized.

Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) is a nonprofit organization, which is a recognized authority on credentials evaluation of the education, registration and licensure of nurses, health care and other professionals worldwide. Their job is to ensure quality nurses and other health care professionals in the U.S, who have completed their education apart from U.S. The candidates, who have successfully completed a secondary school education, graduation from a government-approved, general nursing programme of not less than two years of duration and have received theory and clinical education in each of the following discipline: nursing care of the adult (which includes medical and surgical nursing), maternal/infant nursing, nursing care of children and psychiatric/mental health nursing, are eligible. Apart from academic requirement, the candidates are also required to fulfill licensure requirements.
